Why MDR

Conveyor That Moves Product Only When Product Is There

Sunshine State Automation now supplies MDR (motorized driven roller) conveyor as a complete offering: layout and zone design, hardware, ZPA controls, installation, and commissioning. MDR moves product only when product is there, cutting energy use, noise, and wear. And because every zone is independently driven and networked, the diagnostics and recovery you get from us on day one stay with your maintenance team for the life of the system.

Run-on-Demand Efficiency

Rollers spin only when a carton or tote is in the zone. Compared to continuously running belt or lineshaft conveyor, MDR systems routinely cut conveyor energy consumption by half or more.

True Zero-Pressure Accumulation

Zone-by-zone ZPA comes native: no clutches, no air, no product-to-product contact. Gentle handling for cartons, totes, and polybags.

Low-Voltage Safety

24V/48V DC at the roller. No chains, no sprockets, no exposed drives, no grease. A simpler lockout story and a safer walkway.

Maintenance Your Team Can Own

The spare-parts list is a roller and a driver card. Zone swaps take minutes, not millwright calls, and we train your team to do them.

Built to Change With You

MDR is modular by design. Add zones, re-route lanes, or extend lines without re-engineering a centralized drive.

Diagnostics From Day One

Every zone is independently driven and networked. Faults point to a zone, not a mystery: the same clear diagnostics and guided recovery we build into all of our controls.

One Scope, One Accountable Partner

What We Deliver

From a single accumulation lane to a facility-wide transport system, scoped against your real rates and product mix, not a catalog page.

  • Turnkey MDR systems: layout, fabricated steel, hardware, controls, install, and commissioning as one scope, one accountable partner.
  • MDR retrofits & upgrades: convert lineshaft or belt zones to MDR, or rescue an MDR system that was never commissioned right.
  • Controls & commissioning for OEMs and integrators: ZPA configuration, PLC and WCS/WMS handoffs, startup support.
  • MDR hardware & spares: motorized rollers, driver cards, power supplies, sorters, and pre-configured replacement zones for end users, integrators, and OEMs.

Manufacturer Endorsed
NDW Service Partner

#1 Preferred Controls Partner in the USA

NDW, a vertically integrated intralogistics manufacturer building drive rollers, motor controllers, sorters and power supplies at its own facilities since 1976, has named Sunshine State Automation its service partner and its number one preferred controls partner in the United States.

That designation is about controls, which is the part most conveyor projects get wrong. The hardware is excellent out of the box. Whether it holds rate on your floor comes down to zone logic, gapping, diagnostics and the handoffs to your WCS. That is the work we were recognized for, and it is the same work we do on systems we build ourselves.

Inside the System

What Actually Gets Engineered

MDR looks simple from a catalog page. What separates a line that holds rate from one that limps is the work below, decided at design time rather than discovered at startup.

Zone & Rate Design

Zone length set against your longest and shortest product, not a default. Get this wrong and you either lose accumulation density or you cannot singulate at the rate the sorter needs downstream.

ZPA Release Modes

Singulation, slug release, train release, and mixed behavior by lane. Each is a different logic set with different failure modes. We pick per zone based on what the downstream equipment can absorb.

Dynamic Gapping

Release timing calculated per carton so product arrives at the scanner and sorter with a consistent gap, without stopping the line to meter. This is where most throughput is won or lost.

Fault Isolation

Every zone independently driven and networked, so a fault points at a zone and a card rather than a general area. That is what turns a two-hour hunt into a three-minute swap.

Order Flow & Routing via OIP

Routing messages, carton tracking, divert confirmations, and the diagnostics to prove where an item went and why. We drive this through OIP, our own Operations Intelligence Platform, so order release, routing logic, and equipment control sit in one system instead of a stack of middleware. It talks to your ERP, host, or WMS, and it survives a restart mid-shift without losing the picture.

Spare Zone Strategy

A defined kit of rollers, driver cards, and pre-configured zones on your shelf, so recovery is a parts swap by your own team instead of a purchase order and a wait.

Commissioned & Running

Zipper Merge Holding 80+ Cartons a Minute

Two lanes combining into one continuous stream on a system we scoped, installed, and commissioned. Zero-pressure accumulation upstream, dynamic gapping logic in the PLC timing every release so cartons land singulated with a consistent gap for the scanner and sorter downstream, and no operator standing there clearing jams. This is what the numbers above look like on a real floor.
